Deathloop Will Feature Similar Powers From Dishonored

Deathloop is looking to be a nifty immersive sim with a timeloop, or a “murder puzzle” as developers Arkane Lyon is calling it.

After the release of that new gameplay trailer at the February 2021 State Of Play, there’s more information being shared by the developers, this time at IGN’s FanFest 2021.

In the Deathloop panel at the IGN FanFest, game director Dinga Bakaba confirmed that some of the supernatural powers you can use in Deathloop is very much lifted from their previous work, the Dishonored series. With some tweaks here and there.

“As much as we wanted to do something very original with this game, we also wanted some familiarity,” he said.

“We decided to bring back quite a few of the powers that we have in the Dishonored series. I think it’s something that will make players feel right at home. And then there are a few twists and modifications. I think that’s a good view of the main player tools.”

We could see a short teleport power from the mentioned Deathloop trailer, which is also available in Dishonored.

Deathloop will also include trinkets (passive upgrades) and Slabs, which can grant you even more powerful powers. One of which, as revealed in the interview, is Kinesis. Held by Alexis (one of the Visionaries you need to kill), this power can throw people around.

The FanFest also revealed a new trailer, featuring Bakaba explaining how the game works. Deathloop requires you to kill all eight Visionaries in one day. And they are spread across four regions on the island of Blackreef. With four different time periods.

Figuring out the murder puzzle- how to get all the eight kills before the time loop resets (either from lack of time or you being shot dead) is the whole premise. You can’t see everything in one loop, but the repeated playthroughs will give you more knowledge and help you uncover how to solve the problem.

If you like Dishonored, and the idea of a murder puzzle (like the Hitman games), Deathloop should be on your radar. It’s coming out on May 21 for PS5 and PC (Steam).
