Arkane Lyon’s fantastic time-loop action shooter Deathloop gets a new update today, to coincide with the release of the game on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Game Pass.
The new Goldenloop update is available to all players and adds a bunch of content as well as cross-play matchmaking.
In a game of Deathloop, you can play as Colt to investigate the mystery of Blackreef, kill the Visionaries and break the loop. Or play as Julianna, who’s tasked to ensure Colt won’t be able to break the loop by killing him. This is the cat-and-mouse invasion mode that is part of the game, which you can opt-out and play offline (and get hunted by an AI-controlled Julianna instead) or invade/be invaded by friends and other players.
Good news is with the Goldenloop update, Deathloop now supports cross-play across all platforms, PS5, Xbox Series and PC (Steam, Epic, Microsoft Store). You can also opt to only allow matchmaking with the same platform, or the same controller type.
Veterans of the game should jump back in as Julianna and give the many new Colts a challenge.
Cross-save only applies to Xbox and the PC version on Microsoft Store, however. But the two platforms support cross-buy: buy any version of Deathloop on the Microsoft Store and you’ll get the PC and Xbox versions.
There is new content added with the Goldenloop update. A new ability, Fugue, shoots a projectile that slows and confuses the target. Four upgrades can be found for Fugue:
- Coda: Extended duration
- Earworm: Cast a Fugue “mine” on a surface
- Discord: Target becomes hostile toward its allies
- Syncopation: On target’s death, Fugue affects nearby enemies
Players should investigate Karl’s Bay in the afternoon to find hints on where the Fugue Slab can be found.
The Masquerade ability, exclusive to Julianna, also now has upgrades just like the other Slabs. The new upgrades are as follows:
- Ensemble: Target up to three NPCs with Masquerade
- Mend: Regenerate health while using Masquerade on an NPC
- Expose: When an NPC affected by Masquerade dies or spots Colt, Colt is automatically tagged
- Incognito: Damage taken while using Masquerade is converted to Energy
There’s also a new gun, the HALPS Prototype. This energy-based rifle shoots a continuous laser beam, but apparently, the beam can also be refracted off surfaces like turrets and security cameras. Now that’s an opportunity for shenanigans, and some expression of that immersive sim quality Arkane usually brings in their titles.
19 new trinkets have been added for you to collect, and these contain 2 different abilities found in 2 different trinkets. This means equipping these new 2-in-1 trinkets open up to wilder passive combos than ever before.
There are more secrets that Arkane wants you to find yourselves, so it’s a good time to revisit Blackreef, even if you manage to break the loop before. Speaking of, there was a hint that there will be an extended ending, which isn’t spelt out in the patch notes. So it’s worth a revisit playing as Colt too.
Deathloop is now available on PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store) and Xbox Series X|S. The game is also available on PS Plus Game Catalog (for PS Plus Extra/Deluxe/Premium members), Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass.
