After the massive success of The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, Polish studio CD Projekt Red has been mum about its next game, Cyberpunk 2077. Using the Cyberpunk licence, a tabletop RPG by Mike Pondsmith (who is also involved with the development of Cyberpunk 2077), the game is set to be another open-world RPG. But bigger and more ambitious than The Witcher III.
Speaking at the Pareto Securities Gaming Seminar, CD Projekt CEO Adam Kicinski elaborated on the scope their new RPG is.
“Cyberpunk is our new Witcher III, but even more ambitious. Our goal is to establish a new blockbuster franchise from the beginning, ” he said.
“We work [in a] new universe, futuristic universe. We believe it’s very appealing to players, not only RPG players—but this is [a] true RPG, like Witcher, like Witcher III, for mature audiences. It’s handcrafted, detailed, of course open-world, with open-ended gameplay.”
Until today, we have yet to see any gameplay trailer or images of Cyberpunk. The only promo material was a motion-capped CG teaser shown five years ago.
With the official Cyberpunk Twitter account finally tweeting something after four years, a listing that CD Projekt Red will be at this year’s E3 and how open the developers are now talking about the game (without revealing anything about the game itself like this talk), it’s safe to say the world will learn more about the game soon enough.
