Paradox Interactive and Colossal Order announced a new expansion for city-builder Cities Skylines. The Plazas & Promenades DLC, is focused on allowing you to make pedestrian-friendly cities.
If you’ve been watching one too many videos on how road-based cities are modern hell and we should make cities more walkable, this content included in this expansion should be up your alley.
Plazas & Promenades will let you add pedestrian streets. This behaves like any road tool but only pedestrians can use it, allowing you to make green city centres with no vehicle in sight, and as a result, no pollution.
There are also new pedestrian zones, buildings built in those zones only need to be connected to a pedestrian street rather than a normal street or road.
Players with the expansion also gets access to three zone-specific policies and they are:
- Slow Driving: all roads in the pedestrian zone, except highways, get a speed limit of 20 miles/hour
- Sugar Ban: increases the average lifespan of citizens in the pedestrian zone but decreases their happiness
- Street Music: increases happiness and noise pollution in pedestrian commercial zones
There are also three additional district specialisations: offices, high-density residential areas and high-density commercial zones. Zoned buildings in the new district specialisations will produce a different visual appreance: 24 new modern buildings are included.
Also, you can plop city service buildings in pedestrian zones, which also changes their visual style to match.
The Plazas & Promenades expansion sounds in line with what the future of cities in general will be like, a focus on making them walkable, less polluted by cars and tons of room for green space. And it’s awesome this is something that will be possible to make in Cities Skylines.
Cities Skylines Plazas & Promenades DLC has no release date yet, but it will launch simultaneously on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) as well as on PS4 and Xbox One.
