Square Enix is making kart racing games again with Chocobo GP. The Switch-exclusive arcade racer now has a release date.
When it launches, it will also include Chocobo GP Lite, a “deluxe demo” version of the game available for free. You can try out the Story Mode’s prologue, but also try out multiplayer mode, online and local play.
There are limitations of the Lite version, of course. Online play is only limited to joining the Chocobo GP mode- a tournament mode where a bracket of 64 players compete in a series of races. In each 8-player race, only the top 4 continues to the next round until the final round of only 8 of the fastest drivers race for the GP win.
Meanwhile, local multiplayer mode (up to 8 players) requires a player with the full version of Chocobo GP to host the lobby. Lite players can only join lobbies.
And lastly, the lite version will not include the full roster of playable characters.
Save data and items earned from the Lite version can be carried over to the full game.
Chocobo GP will be out on March 10 for the Nintendo Switch, available in physical and digital editions.
