Groovy? Of all the things you can make a base building game themed around, why hasn’t anyone made one about a cult with a 70’s theme?
It looks like Sole Survivor Games is doing exactly that with Honey, I Joined A Cult. This is a base builder game in the veins of Prison Architect with its top-down view, but instead of housing prisoners, you’re housing cultists.
(Or maybe they are prisoners, depending on how you look at it.)
Anyway, in Honey, I Joined A Cult, you can recruit people into your fold and keep them happy, in exchange for influence and money.
The money can be used to build and improve your base with bedrooms, monoliths, and other cult stuff required for a cult to cultivate.
Not only that, but you can also send minions out and about to spread the good word of your chosen lord and saviour… or just do crimes by stealing stuff to bring back to base. You will also have to contend with threats, from “The Man” (i.e. cops and government) to protesters that have misunderstood your way.
Oh, and it’s your cult and you get to choose your coping mechanism. Whatever deity you choose your cult to follow is up to you. Yes, even the “Squid Lord” is an option if you prefer a mainstream form of madness.
Honey, I Joined A Cult will be released as a Steam Early Access title on September 14. As such, more updates to the base gameplay as well as content is still in the works.
