Borderlands 4 Coming To Switch 2 In October

Borderlands 4, the upcoming looter-shooter by Gearbox Software and 2K is heading to Switch 2, albeit three weeks later than its slated release on PS5, Xbox Series and PC.

Borderlands 4 on Switch 2 makes use of the new Nintendo console’s features including:

  • GameChat (Nintendo’s own Discord-esque voice and video call app)
  • Joy-Con 2 mouse
  • Virtual Game Card support for digital version

In addition, all of Borderlands 4’s multiplayer features are available in the Switch 2 version. That includes local split-screen and online multiplayer with instanced loot and dynamic level scaling.

Borderlands 4 made a teeny, tiny, cameo in the July 2025 Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase. The game is now available for pre-order on Switch 2 just as the rest of the other platforms.

Borderlands 4 takes the first-person looter-shooter action to Kairos with four new Vault Hunters to play as, a new baddie to take on, and levels designed to be more of an open world than the instanced locations previous titles and spin-offs have been. Expect “literally billions” of weapons (because the game generates different guns based on the different parts, and due to how permutations work, it adds up quite exponentially) to loot and shoot. But also expect flashier combat thanks to the new traversal movement as well.

Borderlands 4 is releasing on September 12 on PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and Xbox Series X|S, and October 3 on Switch 2.
