BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle (BBTAG) Producer Toshimichi Mori has mentioned in passing that he would love to collaborate with Square Enix to get Nier Automata’s 2B and 9S to be part of the crossover fighting game’s roster.
In an interview with Forbes, Mori said that he is currently playing Square Enix’s Nier Automata, which led to him joking about putting the two leading androids in the game.
“Hey, we should release 2B and 9S on BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle,” he joked. “Yeah, that would be good. I would want to play that. Should I ask them? Haha.”
Later on the interview, Mori doubled down that he really is open to ideas for such a collaboration. “That would be an amazing project to work on,” he said. “2B and 9S would be amazing additions. Why didn’t I think of that sooner? I should try asking him though, really.
“But, having said all of that, and having created BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle, if you go down the path of collaborations, it’s endless really. So, I still want to be very mindful of creating my own content. ”
While this is no confirmation, there is an interesting precedent behind this. In a previous interview with Forbes, Mori mentioned his interest with turning the western animation RWBY into a fighting game, which led to Rooster Teeth getting in touch. The four main characters of RWBY are now part of BBTAG roster.
It may not be likely we see 2B or 9S anytime soon, but if Square Enix wants to play ball, Arc System Works are ready for them.
