For some folks in Southeast Asia who pre-ordered a physical copy of Persona 3 Reload, they were left disappointed as they received the wrong version of JRPG remake.
In Southeast Asia, Persona 3 Reload on PlayStation has two different SKUs with two different languages: one for English and one for Chinese language. The problem is that some players, despite purchasing an English copy as stated in the front of the box, received a disc of the Chinese language version. The physical copies are mislabelled.
Since these are two separate SKUs, it’s not a matter of just changing language in the game’s settings. You need to get a new game disc. Which has bummed players who received the game day-1 only to not be able to play it.
Atlus SEA, through Facebook, has admitted this is an issue on their side, apologised and are offering replacements. Players can choose to replace their wrong version of P3 Reload with another physical copy or as a digital code, both requiring sending proof of purchase at the Sega support desk.
If you request a digital code, you can still request for a physical copy as a replacement as well, which is cool of them to do considering the circumstances here.
There is still uncertainty whether the DLC codes, included in the more expensive editions of the game, would still work on an English copy.
Atlus will update with new more information next week on February 9. For now.
Some game publishers would include all the different supported language under one SKU, though this isn’t a regular thing in Southeast Asia. A previous kerfuffle regarding players purchasing a game not in the language of their choice was Final Fantasy VII Remake– though that’s an issue with the PlayStation Store UI.
While in the case of Persona 3 Reload here, it’s on Atlus, Sega and their manufacturing partners that have made a mistake that’s stopping players excited to burn their dread. This could have been avoided by just not having different SKUs for different languages
Persona 3 Reload is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. Physical editions are available for the PS4 and PS5 in Asia, but as you’ve read this far, launch copies might be mislabelled and contain a different language than the box says.
