Atelier Ryza 2 Out Now In English, But What’s The Deal With Its Wild Price Range In Malaysia?

Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy is out now. It’s the direct follow-up to Gust Studios Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout, one of many entries in the Atelier series.

The JRPG sequel is set three years after the events of the first game. Protagonist Ryza is now set on a new quest to discover ancient ruins and the secrets of lost legends, all while meeting friends old and new.

There will be new traversal mechanics (including underwater swimming and rope swinging) and new improvements to the real-time tactics battle system. You now can have a sub-member support the three party members, and there will be new Skill Chain and Item Rush techniques at your disposal.

If you’re not familiar with the game, it’s the one where the leading lady has thicc thighs. Yeah, that one.

Atelier Ryza 2 is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch in English. The PS4 version includes a free next-gen upgrade to PS5.

But the real head-scratcher here is the local price of a copy of Atelier Ryza 2 here in Malaysia. Depending if you prefer digital or physical copies, Atelier Ryza 2 is either ridiculously cheap, or ridiculously expensive.

On PlayStation Store Asia, Atelier Ryza 2 is priced starting at RM276. Which makes it a bit more expensive than your usual full-priced PS4 games.

Most publishers have settled for RM249 as our equivalent of the $60 USD price tag, and full-priced PS5 games ($70) are at RM299. So Atelier Ryza 2 is in a weird middle ground with this price- a cheap PS5 game, but overly expensive for a PS4 title.

(The previous Asian release, in Chinese and Korean languages, is even pricier, at RM291)

Unfortunately for PC players, it’s even more expensive. Atelier Ryza 2 on Steam is priced at RM291.

At least the Season Pass price is consistent on both PS4/PS5 and PC. At a pretty steep RM190.

But here’s the wild part. Physical copies of Atelier Ryza 2, in English, are sold for as low as RM189. Sellers like Impulse Gaming are offering that price, though most online sellers for the physical copies we’ve looked through are mostly offering at RM199.

(Yes, you can somehow find the game sold at retail cheaper than its Season Pass.)

If you’re looking into getting Atelier Ryza 2, in particular in Malaysia, we highly recommend you scour for a physical copy of the newly released English version. That’s the best deal here.
