Of the many first and second-party PlayStation Studios titles coming to the PS5 during the PS5 livestream event, one will require no purchase.
Astro’s Playroom will come pre-loaded on PS5. This is similar to PS4’s The Playroom, where the robots first appeared. Astro later appeared on Astro Bot Rescue Mission, a PS VR game.
Astro’s Playroom will again be a showcase of the unique gimmicks that the new console can do. In particular, the 3D platformer will make use of the new DuelSense controller. The weather will rumble the analog stick, or a lightning strike will rumble a particular button, as the trailer portrayed.
It’s also an homage to the PlayStation brand. So many of the triangle, circle, X and square motifs appear in the levels shown, and there is a shot of the PS2’s ominous start screen right near the end of the trailer.
Take a look here:
We may not get a Knack 3 (yet), but at least there’s one mascot platformer coming to the PS5 on launch. And good to see Astro getting another outing, he and the bots should clearly be PlayStation’s mascot right now.
