Somehow, right about now, it’s time to rock with the biggity Buck Bumble, as developer Argonaut Games has teased something about the 1998 Nintendo 64 title.
Announced on April 20, Argonaut posted a video with the caption “a different kind of buzz on 4/20” with the audio being, of course, the bumping tunes that is the Buck Bumble theme song.
“We will not be taking further questions at this time,” the post said.
Argonaut Games is a new publisher re-established in 2024 with access to the backlog of the defunct Argonaut Software, a team that made a range of games before it closed in 2007 including most notably Star Fox and, in this case, Buck Bumble. In 2025, they have remastered Croc: Legend Of The Gobbos for modern platforms.
This tease is likely hinting the next game Argonaut Games will be offering a similar treatment to next.
Those who have followed the news of Argonaut Games wouldn’t be too surprised of this tease, as the publisher previously expressed interest in bringing Buck Bumble back in some form.
The original Buck Bumble, developed by Argonaut Software, wasn’t a critically acclaimed title. The third person shooter where you control a bee with six degrees of freedom was a novelty back then, but wouldn’t be appealing as is to a modern gamer who doesn’t appreciate how controls were jank and game scope were limited back then. That said, many an opinion piece are out there defending the game, which was published by Ubisoft back then.
(In other slightly tangential related news, Ubisoft announced it will be revealing its remake/remaster of an old game, for Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, this week.)
However, its enduring legacy comes from its unironically good theme song, a perfect example of UK garage, one of the musical subgenres for electronic music of the late 90s including jungle and drum n bass. An old upload of the 1-minute loop for the theme song from 2008 is sitting on 18 million views, with the official upload in 2024 bearing the name of the composer behind this certified British banger, Justin Scharvona, is close to 2 million views.
There is no news as of what to expect from Buck Bumble, but this post is for you to expect Buck Bumble news to come.
