At the Six One Indie Showcase, developer Videocult of Rain World fame revealed new gameplay of their next project, Airframe Ultra.
Announced a year ago and teased recently at the PC Gaming Show, Airframe Ultra gets a decent chunk of gameplay shown here and it looks familiar yet alien.
Airframe Ultra is unquestionably devoted in capturing the essense of racing games in the PS1 era. From the low-poly graphics with jittering textures to the gameplay aspects feeling like a list of who’s who of PS1 racing games. The flyover shots of the tracks with an announcer ala Ridge Racer. The hoverbike racing of Jet Moto. The melee weaponry akin to Road Rage. Vehicle combat segments like Twisted Metal.
The bleak retrofuture setting where you race on drainage tunnels filled with garbage as well as some brighly lit streets surrounded by skyscrapers give Airframe Ultra an eerie retrofuture look that will for sure get the attention of racing game fans and PS1 graphics connoisseurs.
The first of hopefully more, the Six One Indie Showcase by media outlet Six One Indie revealed featured over 45 new indie developers. Videocult is also working on more Rain World content with a new DLC releasing early next year.
Airframe Ultra has no release date yet, but you can go to this website here to download a build of the game with just the character creation.
