According To YouTube Numbers, EA Games Win Big At E3

Say what you will with EA’s lacklustre press conference in comparison to the rest, but when it comes to YouTube numbers, they won E3. They won big.

YouTube announced the stats of the most viewed games on YouTube during E3 2017. These numbers include trailers, official gameplay, media coverage as well as reactions from fans. And it looks like EA’s strategy on bringing loads of content creators to their show paid off as four of thier games dominated the top 10 list.

Star Wars Battlefront II is the massive hit this year, as expected with 7.9 million views on the official gameplay alone. (Hopefully YouTube excluded the original Battlefront II that existed years before) FIFA 18 is also huge in numbers at third just behind Assassin’s Creed Origins. Bioware’s new action-RPG shooter Anthem and totally not Fast and Furious game Need For Speed: Payback sits nicely at 8th and 9th respectively.

The rest of the list is also interesting to see. Call of Duty is still big. God Of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man tops as Sony’s biggest hit on YouTube. Super Mario Odyssey’s bonkers trailer – the second most viewed trailer from E3 by the way- and extended gameplay pushed it to sixth and the fantastic Dragon Ball FighterZ managed to scooch in the tenth spot.

The list only covers games being shown at E3, so games that had extended footage before the show like Destiny 2 did not make the list.

Of course, this isn’t the objective winner of the show, but the stats help highlight what people were watching during the week. It won’t be a surprise as content creators are getting more opportunities in upcoming trade shows like E3 in the near future.
