Seemingly out of nowhere, Sega and Creative Assembly announced a new version of Total War: Shogun 2 and it’s coming out rather soon.
Total War: Shogun 2 – Complete Edition features the base game and two of its expansions (Rise Of The Samurai and Fall Of The Samurai). The Complete Edition modernises the 2011 game for modern PC with improved visuals, lighting and shadows, UI that now scales to 1440p and 4K resolutions, ultra-wide support, “modernised controls,” and most interesting: 64-bit support. Shogun 2 can really make use of all that RAM you have now.
In addition, Total War: Shogun 2 – Complete Edition will also be adding Japanese and Chinese voice and text localisation. Wild that the game never had Japanese language support, considering the subject of the game, and it being published by Sega all these years. The announcement trailer on the Sega Asia English’s YouTube channel features japanese voiceovers.
But wait, there’s more. With the Complete Edition, more than 50 factions are now playable. There’s also integrated Mod.io support added as well.
Total War: Shogun 2 – Complete Edition isn’t a free upgrade, but there is a loyalty bonus. Owners of the original Total War: Shogun 2 will now receive all of the previous DLCs for free. Plus, for a limited-time, there will be a 75% discount to Total War: Shogun 2 – Complete Edition.
As for those who purchase Total War: Shogun 2 – Complete Edition, they will also be entitled to the original Shogun 2 and the DLCs. So the original 2011 base game and expansions will remain accessible despite the existence of a fancier new version.
The appearance of Total War: Shogun 2 – Complete Edition feels rather out of nowhere, which is a nice surprise. Creative Assembly previously announced that Total War: Medieval III is in the works, and Total War: Warhammer 40,000 will be releasing soon on PC and for the first time for the RTS series, on consoles.
