Total War: Medieval III Announced

Sega and Creative Assembly will be going back to the medieval times for the next Total War game as they announced Total War: Medieval III.

The sequel to Medieval: Total War and Medieval: Total War II (they only flipped the franchise name to be at the front in 2010), Total War: Medieval III will be “the ultimate medieval strategy sandbox” where players get to experience authentic history and also wield the player agency to alter history in this next RTS game.

Total War: Medieval III is now in early pre-production, so it’s very, very early in development. So early that the teaser trailer shows nothing of the game, just a live-action hype trailer.

The Total War series has been mostly occupied in presenting the world of Warhammer with its ongoing updates and DLC releases for Total War: Warhammer III, which is still ongoing.

So to see Creative Assembly committing to a proper historical setting again after some time, especially the Medieval Ages, is nice to see.

The Total War: Medieval III tease is just one of many Total War announcements made during the Total War 25 Years Anniversary Showcase livestream. The stream also revealed the next Total War: Warhammer III DLC Pack, Lords Of The End Times, the evolution of Total War’s proprietary engine now dubbed the Warcore game engine which now has the added ability to release games on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and a teaser of the actual next Total War game release which will be revealed at The Game Awards 2025.

This to-be-announced title “represents one of the most
ambitious projects in the franchise’s history, marking the beginning of an exciting new era.” Is this new game using that new Warcore game and it’s coming to consoles? Is it a not-historical title since they’ve teased one to placate the veteran fans that may not jive with what’s coming next week? Only one way to find out, and it’s to stay tuned for next week.
