We are finally revving up to the conclusion of the Final Fantasy VII Remake series, as Square Enix has revealed the release date for Final Fantasy VII Revelation.
Not only that, but the September 2026 State Of Play broadcast also showed an extended gameplay showcasing how the finale of this retelling of the seminal 1997 RPG will conclude, with a noticeable lack of Cloud.
The release date trailer is a hype trailer showcasing the full party of eight alive members assemble that will be saving the world, featuring two of the new party members added in Revelation.
The gameplay deep dive is interesting, as it shows exactly how you pilot the Highwind and determine where the party is dropping. This time in Revelation, the party can opt to fight battles while mounted on a chocobo.

The new FITS system, akin to a job system in classic Final Fantasy titles, is only limited to four roles: Warrior, Knight, Black Mage and Summoner. We’ve seen Cloud in the Warrior FITS and Tifa rocking the Black Mage FITS, and this new trailer showcases the cowboy dragoon Cid in the Knight FITS and Vincent in the Summoner FITS.
Another feature introduced in Revelation is the ability to freely swap the active controlled character, and the party makeup at any time. Previous games locked you most of the time into controlling Cloud, as the story unfolds from his perspective. Cloud can just be a passenger princess this time and have someone else take the lead in talking to NPCs to complete quests.
Interestingly, some quests will feature options where a player can select a party member to complete a quest, which can impact how the scenario unfold.
Also, Revelation has added new traversal options via the grappling gun. The new location of Wutai has contextual grappling points where you can scale up rooftops.
Plus, Queen’s Gambit, the card game mini-game within Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, is returning. But this time, that side quest plot revolves around Red XIII (who’s now speaking with his real voice) instead of Cloud.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch on April 8 for the PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.
