During a recent PlayStation State of Play showcase, IO Interactive has showcase gameplay for their upcoming James Bond game, 007 First Light, which includes stuff to expect when the game releases next year. And as a fan of the video gaming side of this series, it does looks promising.
The trailer has most of the game’s slices all in one go, from open-ended areas, combat encounters, driving segments and even gadget usages, with most of it directed from 007’s watch, just like how the Brosnan-era did it. But one neat twist in the James Bond gaming-verse is that since this is a much younger variation, you can only shoot down enemies once you get approval from HQ as the situation gets hostile, a “License to Kill” if you will.
The sneaking and sleuthing itself feels like a mixture of previous IO games, hints of the new Hitman Trilogy and even some of Hitman Absolution, coming into play and the set-pieces as seen in the trailer, very much going all out.
And it looks to be ticking all the boxes for being one of the best James Bond games, after a decade’s absence.
007 First Light is set to launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series Consoles, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC on March 26, 2026
