You Can Get The Overwatch League Skins In Early 2018, But You’ll Need To Buy Merchandise And Unlock It Using A Different Currency

Fancy those cool looking Overwatch League skins? While the skins will function as jerseys during official Overwatch League matches, you too can own one for any of your favourite heroes. Thankfully, it’s not included in loot boxes, but it still has a catch.

All of the Overwatch League skins are unlocked using League Tokens, a new, separate currency to the current game’s credits. In order to get more League Tokens, you need to spend on Overwatch League merchandises.

This is “to ensure the correct amount from your League-related purchases go towards the teams”, said OWL Commissioner Nate Nanzer. Each team will get revenue from merchandise sales.

It’s not entirely different from buying DLC to support a tournament prize pool seen in Dota 2 or even Street Fighter V. But the need to buy merch to get League Tokens means that you will have to buy them directly from the Blizzard Gear Store. Sharing orders to cut shipping costs or buying these merch from a middle man will mean you’ll miss out on getting Tokens, which will be used exclusively to unlock OWL-related content within Overwatch.

The skins should arrive in early 2018 and everyone who logs into the game regardless of platforms will be given enough League Tokens to purchase at least one skin.
