Xiaomi continues to establish its name in the automotive world by unveiling the Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo at MWC 2026.
The electric hypercar concept is the 51st Vision Gran Turismo car, a program in which car manufacturers and designers around the world are invited to create a concept grand tourer with no regulatory restraints to be added in the renowned racing game series Gran Turismo. Xiaomi is the 36th manufacturer to be invited to create a Vision Gran Turismo car.
The Xiaomi VGT looks sleeker and racier than your average EV as its shape is “sculpted by the wind,” an opulent way of saying the car is designed to be as aerodynamically efficient as possible, a sweet spot between purely low drag (for top speed) an maximum downforce (for the most optimal cornering prowess). Naturally, “sculpting by the wind” produces a teardrop shape. Other fancy design tricks of the Xiaomi VGT includes an Active Wake Control System that pushes turbulent air further away from the back of the car, Accretion Rims that looks perfectly stationary when in motion that hides turbine fins that sucks air to cool the brakes and a “sofa racer” interior designed to be a comfy cocoon rather than pure form with the use of Xiaomi HyperOS.
Partnering up with Gran Turismo gives Xiaomi, the Chinese company mostly known for making smart devices, the reputation it needed as a serious player in the automotive industry. “The invitation itself was a recognition of what Xiaomi has achieved,” said Tianyuan Li, Design Head of Xiaomi EV. “It allowed our teams in Munich, Beijing, and Shanghai to collaborate, to push boundaries, and to envision what a future hypercar could look like when designed without limits.”
This also cements the fact that the Gran Turismo brand is an automotive institution beyond just being racing games, if that needs any more reinforcing still.
Previously, Gran Turismo 7 has added the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, the record-beating SUV EV, into the game.
The Xiaomi VGT will be coming to Gran Turismo 7 in a future update. A full scale model of the Xiaomi VGT is showcased at MWC 2026.
