Witchfire was announced to be the next game by The Astronauts, the team behind The Vanishing Of Ethan Carter. If you’re familiar with that game, Witchfire’s trailer that debuted at the Game Awards 2017 will feel right at home at the beginning of the trailer. A very pretty landscape that most likely be used as an exploration game (or “walking simulators”).
Then a shotgun appeared.
The Astronauts remind you that their pedigree stretches further. They were formally part of the team behind Painkiller and Bulletstorm. Both are frantic, fast-paced FPSes. Which makes the bait-and-switch nature of this teaser trailer brilliant.
Witchfire gives your character the ability to dash, which should to some interesting skirmishes in this twitch shooter. Some have quickly comparing it to Dark Souls due to this and its enemy design, but this should be more in vein of Doom 2016.
No date or platform for Witchfire has been revealed just yet.
