Windows 11 2022 Update Rolls Out Today With New Gaming Features

Microsoft announced that Windows 11 will be getting its annual big OS update starting today. The Windows 11 2022 update (or Windows 11 22H2) will add a lot of interesting new features , including some related to gaming.

First off, there’s a new “controller bar”, a new look to the Xbox Game Bar accessible by pressing the Xbox button on the Xbox Wireless Controller (or any other compatible controller) connected to the PC. this lets you easily select and launch your recent games, or open up the various game launchers you have with just the controller.

The Windows 11 2022 update also allows DirectX 10 and 11 games running in windowed and borderless windowed mode to run with improved display latency (less lag), and also supports variable refresh rate (VRR) and Auto-HDR. (Newer games with DirectX 12 have supported all these features in all window modes).

The update will also include an HDR Calibration app. Those using HDR displays can now calibrate the colour accuracy and consistency. More games will also support Auto-HDR, unspecified enhancements to DirectX 12 Ultimate, and more support for DirectStorage are also added with this update.

There are also new gaming features on Microsoft Edge, the web browser Microsoft insists you on giving a try (and to be fair, it’s actually pretty okay now). Most of it won’t be relevant to gamers in Southeast Asia though, as the update can now highlight Microsft Rewards points, provide easy access to Xbox Cloud Gaming and a Clarity Boost feature to make games running on the cloud look sharper.

But the new Gaming homepage, a new Games menu that lets you find free casual games and an Efficiency mode that reduces browser resources when running a game might be something to look forward to should you use that browser.

The Windows 11 2022 update begins rolling out today, not all devices will be able to download it as of right now, but availability will slowly be made to more devices over time.
