Unknown 9: Awakening is releasing later this month, it looks like a big deal, but what exactly is it?
Developed by Reflector Entertainment, a Bandai Namco company, Unknown 9: Awakening is the first chapter of the larger story unfolding within the Unknown 9 narrative universe told through novels, comic books and podcasts.
The new overview trailer gives a rundown why Unknown 9: Awakening, that’s the game, is something that might pique your interest. It’s a AAA action-adventure starring a Hollywood star as its protagonist (Anya Chalotra plays protagonist Haroona), set in a world rich in worldbuilding, and a stealth-action combat.
Haroona has also has what’s basically magic skills which allows her to go invisible, detect enemies and even take control of an enemy for a short while. In other words, this is the closest we ever gotten to a return of Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy.
The idea of a Hollywood star in the main role of game with magical powers isn’t exactly a new idea (see Forspoken), which is likely why Unknown 9: Awakening hasn’t gotten enough people talking about it yet. We still don’t know if the world itself is interesting enough for it to spawn multimedia spin-offs right now.
But it sure is fascinating that this is developed by a company under Bandai Namco Europe after the latter acquired them in 2020. The Canada-based studio is also working on their next project, a new entry to an existing Bandai Namco IP.
Unknown 9: Awakening releases on October 18 for the PS4, PS5, PC (Steam), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
