Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage Announced, Featuring New Single-Player Mode And More

There’s a new Virtua Fighter game that will be released this year, but it’s not that new Virtua Fighter game.

Sega announced Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage, an enhanced version of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. released early this year for PC.

This title will be coming to consoles as well, as previously announced.

For those who did bought REVO earlier this year, don’t worry—Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage is a free upgrade for everyone who owns Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. while owners of Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown on PS4 gets a special discount when purchasing World Stage. All DLC will also carry over between versions.

With REVO World Stage, players on consoles can join PC players as well. REVO World Stage not only has rollback netcode, but also crossplay support to ensure a healthy playerbase is available regardless of your platform of choice. The game is coming to Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2 as well as on PS5. The game REVO was based on, Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown, is a PS4 exclusive title.

Outside of having it on new platforms, REVO World Stage introduces a new single-player mode: World Stage. This campaign has you travel the world to compete in a tournament while fighting opponents. Some of them are CPU based on world-renowned players. Looks like somebody at developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio took notes from playing Tekken 8.

On top of that, World Stage also has the ability to rewatch replays of other players a Training Mode outfitted with customisable conditions. Definitely more notes taken from contemporary fighting games which have begun to support these features.

Virtua Fighter 5 REVO was a rather odd release of a fighting game as it’s technically a version of Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown, which itself a PS4 remake of a 2006 arcade game later ported to PS3 and Xbox 360. And there is this odd situation where Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown would still be patched with balance changes seen in Virtua Fighter 5 REVO despite them being separate games and as such there was no crossplay.

The previously promised DLC was also reveal: it’s for the final boss character Dural. Her playable debut is paywalled as she is paid DLC. She’s also explicitly ban from all official Sega tournaments and the Virtua Fighter Open Championship. For those not in the know, Dural’s moveset combines the moves from every playable character, which can lead to bonkers and outright unfair matches. Hence, the tournament ban.

Ahead of launch, Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage will also have a beta test on PS5, PC and Xbox Series X|S, to be held sometime in early September. Participation on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S requires signing up for a Sega account.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage will be out on October 30 on PS5, PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X|S. It’s also coming to the Switch 2 at a later date.
