Valve Brings In Firewatch Developer Campo Santo, To Publish Their Next Game

Remember when Valve’s Gabe Newell is promising the studio will be shipping games again? Well it seems they are making moves by acquiring Campo Santo. The 12-person indie team that made Firewatch will be a part of Valve, and their next game, In The Valley Of Gods, will be published under Valve.

“The twelve of us at Campo Santo have agreed to join Valve,” the post on Campo Santo’s site reads, “where we will maintain our jobs as video game developers and continue production on our current project, In the Valley of Gods.”

In The Valley Of Gods is another first-person adventure where the focus is on exploration and storytelling, similar to Firewatch. No release date is yet to be announced.

It’s an interesting move by Valve to acquire an indie team like this. But this may tie with the Seattle-based company’s vested interest in VR. Campo Santo has experimented with making tactile VR experiences, but we will see if that is the direction they are heading. It could just be that Valve wants to just ship games again.
