When Acer announced that the Predator Gaming Series, their gaming-centric line of products, we did not expect them to unveil a gaming tablet.
The Predator 8 tablet looks the part, with Dolby-supported four front facing speakers and a metallic finish on the back. Front facing speakers are always a good thing for mobile devices.
The 8-inch tablet sports a stunning display, at 1920 x 1200 screen resolution and its colour temperature and brightness can be adjusted as you see fit. As a tablet, it sports a rather serviceable 4MP back camera and a 2MP front camera. However, it does have MicroSD support, up to 128GB, along with its 32GB internal storage. The device is running Intel Atom x7 processor with 2GB of RAM, and an Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system. Battery life is claimed to last up to 7.5 hours of video playback.
Interestingly, the Predator 8 has some vibration feedback. On our testing with Asphalt 8, the vibration isn’t too strong, but just nice enough as a rumble feature. It remains to be seen if any other game developers will be going to take advantage of this feature, as Asphalt 8 will be preloaded with the device, along with 300,000 gold coins, the in-game currency only obtainable via micro-transactions.
The best part of this device is actually the price. Retailing at RM1499, this is the cheapest product of the line, and in the context of mobile devices, it’s pretty affordable. Even if the gaming aspects may not be interesting enough, this could easily double as a multimedia tablet, perfect for consuming videos and pictures due to its strong display and speakers, and all round great specs for a tablet.
