The Many Mini-Games Of Like A Dragon: Yakuza Pirate In Hawaii

Sega has provided the low-down on what mini-games are coming to the next Like A Dragon Gaiden game, Like A Dragon Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii.

This spin-off title featuring Goro Majima and an action-based combat system will feature a bountiful list of mini-games, from series classics to returning ones from past and recent titles, gussied up with new content.

The biggest one has to be Minato Girls. As teased in the reveal, it features FMV sequences where all of the recent audition winners are seen. But it’s not like the Cabaret sequences in Like A Dragon Gaiden where they only appear in FMV form.

With this new mini-game, Majima is helping his crewmate Masaru to hang out with the Minato Girls, and you’ll be setting up a party and mingle with the ladies all in the effort to score their contacts for your buddy.

Pirate Yakuza will feature the Minato Girls not just in FMV form, they will also appear in-game and rendered in-engine. Majima will appear on-screen while talking to these ladies, so it’s not going to creep out some folks too much. Plus, Majima’s not the kind of person that goes on romantic pursuits directly.

Here’s the description of the five Minato Girls as they appear in Pirate Yakuza:

  • Ena (Enako): A prominent cosplayer who takes pride in being part of the community. She also has a bit of a stoic side.
  • Seiko (Seiko Kirishima): A spokesmodel for racing events. While friendly and affable, her sheer beauty makes her difficult to approach.
  • Kaho (Kaho Shibuya): A published author who frequently hosts seminars. Her intelligence and class make her incredibly attractive, but she also has a secret.
  • Ai (Ai Hongo): A popular adult film actress. Her friendly and curious nature makes her all the more appealing.
  • Misoshii (Misoshiru): A streamer with a focus on gaming videos. She’s always coming up with new ways to entertain her fans.

Karaoke, a Yakuza/Like A Dragon staple mini-game, will feature at least six songs sung by Majima. Two of which are songs heard from previous games (Get To The Top! from Yakuza Dead Souls and the iconic 24-Hour Cinderella from Yakuza 0).

The current known songs featured in Pirate Yakuza karaoke mini-game are:

  • Song of Departure -Journey to the New World- (game’s main theme)
  • The Sun at 36.5°C- duet song and “follow-up to 24-Hour Cinderella”
  • Midnight Desire – metal song
  • The Goro Pirates Theme
  • Get To The Top!
  • 24-Hour Cinderella

Crazy Delivery from Like A Dragon Infinite Wealth returns, but this time the delivery area covers the Anaconda Shopping Center. Majima can do this mini-game that’s basically Crazy Taxi but based on today’s economy.

Dragon Kart makes a comeback from Yakuza: Like A Dragon. The kart racing mini-game with kart customisation now has a battle mode, so now it’s also a vehicle combat mini-game.

New arcade games are featured in Pirate Yakuza, and these are deep picks. Confirmed games includes The Ocean Hunter, Poseidon Wars 3-D, Space Harrier 3-D and Star Jacker. The list is incomplete, so expect a few more classic Sega games from the Sega Master System and arcades to be featured.

Majima can also do some rounds with his baseball bat at the Bang Bang Batting Center, take pictures of unscrupulous people in Sicko Snap, take an exam by answering multiple-choice questions at the Vocational School and more.

Expect plenty of time-sinkers that will lure you away from the mainline pirate adventures. Aside from the mini-games, there are also substories. The two that’s been revealed are already wacky: one involves Majima getting roped to help an idol fan, and the other has him going through compliance training, as any respectable pirate captain should.

Also, just like Like A Dragon Gaiden, Pirate Yakuza will let you customise Majima’s outfit freely. You can also have him crossdress in that outfit he wears in Yakuza Kiwami, should you choose.

Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii will be out on February 21 for the PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
