Dota 2’s The International is already a ubiquitous name in esports. It’s the biggest tournament in Dota 2 with the biggest prize pool in esports each year. And each year, they are breaking their own record.
Same goes in 2018. The International 8’s prize pool has official surpassed last year’s $24,787,916 USD today, as spotted by notable esports talent Paul “Redeye” Chaloner.

Developers Valve chipped in 1,600,000 USD while the rest is crowdfunded through the sales of the Battle Pass. Battle Pass adds more cosmetics and various extra content for players to not only enjoy in-game but also to follow along the progress of TI, such as player cards and predictions.
However, it is noted that this year has been the longest time for the prize pool to surpass its previous year’s record. It was only reached as TI8 is starting the main event.
The main event for TI8 begins today until August 25th, where the winner will be walking home with at least 10.9 million USD.
