The Division 2 will be getting new content after all, and it’s something the team at Ubisoft Massive wasn’t planned for.
But 2020 was a… massive year for The Division 2. The third-person looter-shooter about a fictional post-pandemic future proved to be popular right now, ironically enough. Over 40 million players have played the game in 2020.
Work on new content is still in the early stages, though the blog post promises a new game mode being added in the next update, scheduled for a late 2021 release. They are also looking at ways to further progress your character with more potential builds being available, and viable for use.
The update team will be led by Ubisoft Massive’s Adrian Trasca and Yannick Banchereau and be made up of the developers from Ubisoft Bucharest.
Meanwhile, expect to see re-runs of seasonal content (available for those with the Warlords Of New York expansion), until the next big update arrives. So the upcoming Season 5 will be a re-run of Season 1 content. Expect to see smaller updates as well as Apparel Events to appear during this time as well.
New content will slow down for the time being, but it’s good to see Ubisoft extending the tail length of the game after seeing how many players just jumped in, and many continue to play it.
In other news, Ubisoft Massive’s next game will be an open-world title based on Star Wars.
