Striking Distance Studios is working on The Callisto Protocol. This is an upcoming survival horror set in a sci-fi future made by veterans of the Dead Space franchise including series creator Glen Schofield.
The Callisto Protocol revealed a new trailer and a release date at Sony’s State Of Play broadcast earlier this month, but at the Summer Game Fest 2022 showcase we get to see a longer cut of the trailer, dubbed the Schofield Cut, which revealed a bit more gruesome bits, some might even say visceral.
This includes really satisfying stomps and seeing your protagonist Jacob Lee have his head munched off. Eugh.
Not only that, there was more The Callisto Protocol being shown during the broadcast in the form of a gameplay snippet.
The raw gameplay video captured on “next-gen hardware” really makes you see this is through and through as a Dead Space spiritual successor. From Jacob’s neck ring being your health bar to the way the third-person combat works with sort-of guns and telekinesis power, it’s hard not to make the comparisons. And also, one more visceral way to die was shown here as well.
The Callisto Protocol is looking to release on December 2 for the PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), and Xbox. Coincidentally, the Dead Space remake will be arriving the next month in January.
