Capcom revealed a bunch of new Street Fighter V content in its Winter Update stream.
Taking a page on other Capcom games that have done dev streams, players were treated with a bunch of new gameplay for the upcoming Season 5 of the fighting game.
First, is the more expected one. Dan Hibiki will be joining the SFV roster as paid DLC as soon as Season 5 starts. Dan has always been a joke character- seemingly weak, but in the right hands and a lot of hard work, can make them a formidable opponent.
We’ve seen his basic moveset previewed before, but with now being close to launch, what’s shown in the winter update stream is close to what we can expect when he is released.
Dan’s V-Skill is a taunt. Use it after a special move to cancel it into a taunt. As such, it can be used for surprise attacks, or to back out from an attack. The drawback? The taunts increases both player’s V-gauges, not just Dan’s.
V-Trigger 1 for Dan only requires one bar- something unique only to him (for now). The move is Haoh-Gakoen, a short-range fireball that can be charged for added wall bounce or guard crush effect.
Dan’s V-Skill 2 is a two-hit attack, but can be cancel out into another standard or special move. The drawback being the long animation that puts Dan vulnerable if the V-Skill isn’t cancelled out. This is definitely made for the more technical players. Similar to V-Skill 1, both player’s V-Gauge will be raised when Dan uses V-Skill 2.
His V-Trigger 2 enhances Dan’s Gadoken fireballs and Koryuken uppercuts.
The stream also showed off Rose, the next character in line coming in Season 5. Expect to see some moves returning from her Street Fighter Alpha days including Soul Illusion, which is her V-Trigger 2.
Speaking of the V-Systems, there will be a new mechanic added in Season 5 alongside V-Skills and V-Triggers. V-Shift is a defensive ability every character (and every player) will get, and it uses one V-Gauge for an invincible backdash that also slows down time. It’s even invincible to throws. Time it right, and you regain half of the used V-Gague back.
It can also be followed up with a V-Shift Break, bringing the momentum back to you with a forward attack.
A new free stage, The Grid Alternative, will also be available for all players. It’s a re-colour of the usual training stage.
Expect to see a major rebalance of all characters when Season 5 hits.
Finally, Capcom showed a bonus character, available for those that purchase either the Season 5 Character Pass (all the new characters) or the Premium Pass (a bunch of extra cosmetics). Eleven is a prototype of the shape-shifting Twelve that appeared in Street Figther 3. Eleven is essentially Street Fighter’s Mokujin, they will take on the appearance and moveset of any character you own, with random selection of V-Skill and V-Trigger. It’s a mimic character.
Eleven is not the fifth, still-unrevealed DLC character.
Street Figther V Season 5 begins February 22 for PS4 and PC. The first DLC character of five in the season, Dan, will arrive on the same date.
