Here’s an interesting and unexpected announcement. Square Enix has announced a new brand under its fold: Balan Company.
Balan Company is a brand focusing on action games that “brings together talented action game developers, visual and music creators from both inside and outside of the company.”
The naming here, in particular, the word “Company” takes inspiration from a theatre troupe rather than the usual corporate meaning we associate to these days. Square Enix really emphasise the idea of different talents from different fields working together for the stage- that is “provide the ultimate in action game entertainment to audiences around the world.”
Little else have been revealed other than a teaser site here. Turn on the audio, there’s a charming little jingle that plays.
Square Enix doesn’t particularly make action games per se, but they have been dabbling with making more action RPGs as of late, including Final Fantasy VII Remake, Trials Of Mana (also a remake) as well as working with character action game specialists Platinum Games on Nier Automata and the upcoming Babylon’s Fall.
We will have to wait and see where this new Balan Company label will fit into the picture.
