Sega announced it has sold more than 2 million copies of Sonic X Shadow Generations. This includes digital downloads as well as shipped physical copies.
The game already sold more than a million copies within the first week of launch, and sales keep pouring since last October.
Sonic X Shadow Generations is part remaster of Sonic Generations, one of the most beloved and critically acclaimed Sonic The Hedgehog games, and part new game with the addition of the all-new Shadow Generations campaign.
Sega went all in with Shadow, Sonic’s edgelord rival, last year with the “Fearless: Year Of Shadow” campaign which includes the release of Sonic X Shadow Generations and the Sonic The Hedgehog 3 movie featuring Shadow (which also featured in Sonic X Shadow Generations via paid DLC).
Not only that, but Sonic X Shadow Generations was also localised into 12 different languages, something the publisher proudly announced alongside the sales milestone.
Sonic Generations aged gracefully throughout the years, its mix of 2D old-school platforming of Classic Sonic and 3D high-speed platforming of Modern Sonic is still just as fun today. And the new Shadow Generations campaign really showed developer Sonic Team is hitting a new stride. Check out our review of the game here.
Sega will continue to spread the good word of their mascot with more promos and fan engagements. There’s a Sonic plane you can take a flight on. And there will be an exclusive fan gathering happening in Malaysia happening next month.
Sonic X Shadow Generations is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
