The new Samsung 9100 PRO Series PCIe 5.0 SSDs are now available in Malaysia.
This is, as Samsung claims, the first consumer SSD series with PCIe 5.0 support with sequential read and write speeds up to 14,800 MB/s and 13,400 MB/s respectively.
The Samsung 9100 PRO Series PCIe 5.0 SSDs—which comes in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB and a whopping 8TB storage sizes—are compatible with laptops, gaming PCs and game consoles (i.e. the PS5, which has an upgrade slot to insert an internal SSD).
With these SSDs being based on PCIe 5.0, the 9100 PRO series is about twice as fast as the previous generation 990 PRO series SSDs (from 7,450MB/s sequential read speed on 990 PRO to 14,800MB/s sequential read speed on 9100 PRO). It’s also claimed to be 49% more power efficient than the previous-gen SSD series.
The 9100 PRO also comes with a heatsink (for an additional price). The 8TB SSD has a thicker 11.25mmT heatsink, while the other models has an 8.8mmT heatsink.
The 9100 PRO also comes with Samsung Magician software to help data migration when performing SSD upgrades, as well as drive health warning and firmware updates.
The Samsung 9100 PRO SSD is available in Malaysia starting April 4 via Samsung Online Store, Samsung Official Store on Shopee and Lazada as well as select consumer electronics stores, with the option to purchase them sans heatsink (which makes them between RM20-RM100 cheaper).
The big boy 8TB model won’t arrive until later this June, but it’s coming.
