Ahead of Gamescom 2026, Asus has announced the availability of the special ROG Xbox Ally X20 handheld PC. Though pre-orders are now open with pricing available in other countries, it’s not available for pre-order in Malaysia just yet.
The ROG Xbox Ally X20 is slight hardware refresh based on the ROG Xbox Ally X. No performance improvements.
There are some changes for this special model of the Xbox Ally X. For one, the chassis is made of black translucent plastic with gold accents. The translucent plastic, a nice nod to the hardware design trends of 20 years ago, lets you see what lies inside the Ally X, like the cooling system.
The ROG Xbox Ally X20 also sports a new screen, a 7.4-inch 1080p Nebula HDR OLED panel. It’s 0.4 inches bigger and 100 nits brighter than the base Xbox Ally X, but more notably, it’s also an OLED panel over the base IPS display.
Also, the analog sticks this time are of the TMR variety. This is a step above the more robust and reliable Hall effect sticks, and definitely much better than the cheap and more prone to stick drifting potentiometer-based sticks the base Ally (and pretty much most baseline controllers on current generation consoles) have.
Other than what’s mentioned and that it’s slightly more weighty than a base Xbox Ally X (765g vs 715g), the ROG Xbox Ally X20 is basically the same as a base Xbox Ally X specs-wise.
As such, it’s still powered by an AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, has 24GB worth of RAM (soldered to the board) and comes with 1TB of M.2 2280 SSD upgradable storage. Expect the same graphical performance when gaming.
If you’re wondering why it’s called the X20 rather than the X25 (to coincide Xbox’s 25th anniversary—Xbox also announced a slew of throwback hardware featuring translucent plastics by them and other partners), Asus is instead commemorating this special Xbox Ally X to the 20th anniversary of the Republic Of Gamers brand, first introduced in 2006.
While pre-orders and pricing is not available in Malaysia yet, Asus Malaysia has revealed that the ROG Xbox Ally X20 can be pre-ordered as a standalone purchase, or as part of a bigger bundle which includes the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses, a dbrand Killswitch for ROG Xbox Ally X20, 68-watt adapter and a custom Pelican Protector Case.
