Roblox Now Has More Than 100 Million Active Players Monthly, Surpassing Minecraft

Roblox, the massive online game where players create their own fun ala Minecraft, has surpassed 100 million active players monthly. That’s a massive number, especially compared to the latest monthly active players of Minecraft, which at the moment stands at 91 million.

“We started Roblox over a decade ago with a vision to bring people from all over the world together through play,” said founder and CEO David Baszucki in a press release. “Roblox began with just 100 players and a handful of creators who inspired one another, unlocking this groundswell of creativity, collaboration, and imagination that continues to grow.”

In April, Roblox reported that the game has achieved 90 million active players monthly, so it’s an upward trend of growth.

While not something you’d see being actively covered or talked about in the gaming mainstream, Roblox is quite a juggernaut. And it has some of the most creative, and weird (in a good way) communities.

As we have discussed in a past episode of dia.log – The Gamer Matters Podcast, the Roblox community in Malaysia that we encountered, for example, are heavy roleplayers. They have been recreating government institutions, political parties and elections with their own manifesto material. They even recreated the swearing-in of the Prime Minister taking place in the royal palace, Istana Negara. In Roblox.

Roblox is out now on PC, Xbox One, iOS and Android.
