At The Game Awards 2019, PlayerUnkown Productions, a new subsidiary under PUBG Corp led by Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene, teased their new project. It’s called Prologue.
It’s 30-seconds of a raining forest where the camera turn left a bit. Quite the teaser.
PlayerUnknown was given the freedom to set up his own studio working on other projects outside of PUBG recently. Prologue is described as on their website as “an exploration of new technologies and gameplay.
“Our aim with this game is to give players unique and memorable experiences, each and every time they play.”
It’s still all vague and mysterious still.
But an interview by Forbes with PlayerUnknown shed more light on what Prologue is. It’s not PUBG 2, nor is it even a shooter.
“We set up the studio, and founded it with the goal of experimenting with new technology,” he said. “Now we’re taking that first step towards building new technologies, and Prologue is the first step into the new world for us. I wanted the chance to deliver something new on a global scale.”
Will it be another massive multiplayer game that defined the gaming landscape again? Who knows. But at least that forest in the teaser trailer looks mightily impressive compared to what PUBG looks like.
