People Can Fly has announced that the much-needed first patch for its looter-shooter Outriders is coming next week.
The game has suffered from technical issues- including a problem with PC-console crossplay and the servers being down which led to players unable to play the online-only title- in its first week. But the developer is making the necessary fixes.
The patch, expected to arrive next week, will fix the crossplay issue, stuttering issues on PC, HUD not appearing issues and various crashes.
If you like to understand how the servers went kaput, People Can Fly also shared a post-mortem of what happened including technical aspects of how the servers are running a bit different. The gist is that the servers were overwhelmed (as you might expect) an issue only appeared when it was under extreme loads- something they never catch before, even when the demo was available.
Alongside that, as a token of appreciation to the players that played the game between March 31 to April 11 (UTC Time) will be eligible for the Community Appreciation Package. It’s a drop of in-game item which includes:
- A level appropriate Legendary Weapon
- A level appropriate amount of Titanium
- The emote “Frustration”
The emote is unobtainable in any other way for now and is noted that “the irony here was not intentional but is fitting”. Given the first-week launch issues and the tone of Outriders, we concur.
The weapon and titanium resource will be awarded to the highest-level character in your account.
Players who had to go through an automatic inventory wipe restoration (there’s a bug where you can lose all your items, but the devs can restore them back- to an extent) will also be compensated with the package.
It’s still not smooth sailing for Outriders yet, but “when it’s firing on all cylinders, Outriders stands apart from its genre brethren,” as stated in our review. For those not sold on it yet, give it more time. And for those already playing it, the fixes are coming soon.
