No Man’s Sky Gets Free Next-Gen Upgrade, Cross-Play With All Platforms

They’ve done it again. Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky is getting another update. Version 3.10, dubbed the Next Generation Update, this adds multitudes of features focusing on the PS5 and Xbox Series versions.

First of all, No Man’s Sky supports free next-gen upgrades. If you already own the game on a console, you’ll own it for the next-gen version be it the PS5 or the Xbox Series X|S. Progress can be carried over too- Xbox naturally just picks up that save file while on PlayStation, you’ll need to import the PS4 save and download it to your PS5 via an in-game option.

Cross-play has been enhanced so that all players can play together. Multiplayer player count has been dramatically increased to 32.

The next-gen versions (and PC) of No Man’s Sky will receive major graphical updates too. Lusher planets populated with more stuff. The base building aspect is also been improved, letting players make even bigger constructions. The next-gen consoles can run 4K 60fps (presumably except Xbox Series S which only goes to 1440p), and that initial load should be much, much quicker thanks to the custom SSDs on PS5 and Xbox Series.

Lastly, No Man’s Sky on PS5 will make use of its 3D audio tech for more immersive sound as well as making use of the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback. You can also still play the game in VR on PS5 using PS VR via backwards compatibility.

Full patch notes can be found here.

No Man’s Sky just released a big content update recently, so this one is more focused on bringing in next-gen support. Still, the developers have gone through lengths to make the prospect of going back to this survival space sim more enticing.

No Man’s Sky Next Generation update will be coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on their launch day, as well as to PC.
