Nioh 3 Announced, Limited-Time Demo Now Available On PS5

At the June 2025 State Of Play showcase, Koei Tecmo announced Nioh 3, the next entry of developer Team Ninja’s soulslike action-RPG.

A limited-time demo is available now on PS5, continuing the series’ tried-and-true tradition of having a limited-time demo on a PlayStation. The Nioh 3 demo is available until June 18, and players can give feedback on the new combat styles and exploration.

Nioh 3 follows the story of a young warrior (a player created character) set to be the next Shogun during Japan’s Sengoku period (though with more supernatural beings hanging about in clear sight).

Following Rise Of The Ronin, Nioh 3 will also be an open world game. Well, “open-field” as the press release says, but that is enough of a change considering the Nioh series usually have smaller-scale levels designed for linear travel. Maybe it would be more in line with Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, which has some openness to it without going full open world.

Another new feature for Nioh 3 is the addition of Ninja techniques, on top of the usual Samurai skills you have in use. Players can switch between the two styles instantly to adapt to the different challenges, which will surely be punishing.

Team Ninja continues a streak of yearly releases. This year they’ll be releasing Ninja Gaiden 4, a game co-developed by PlatinumGames.

Nioh 3 will be out in 2026 for the PS5 and PC.
