Nintendo Switch Pro? Not quite. Nintendo finally reveals a new version of the Nintendo Switch, though keep your expectations in check.
The Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) features a new 7-inch OLED display (compared to the 6.2-inch LCD on a normal Switch and 5.5-inch LCD on the Switch Lite). Though it still outputs at 720p when undocked, and 1080p when docked.
In fact, don’t expect any performance improvements. The CPU/GPU on the Switch (OLED Model) is similar to all other Switch models. But that also means all Joy-Con controllers and all Nintendo Switch games works with this new model.
The rest of the upgrades, like the new OLED screen, is more on quality-of-life updates. Internal storage is bumped to 64GB (compared to the 32GB in normal Switch), there’s improved audio speakers, a new wider, adjustable stand and the included Switch dock now includes a LAN port.
Here are all the new features of the Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) in bullet point form:
- Better display (new 7-inch OLED screen vs 6.2-inch LCD)
- 64GB internal storage (up from 32GB)
- New wide, adjustable stand
- Wired LAN port included in new dock
- Improved audio speakers
The Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) comes in with two Joy-Con controllers (either in white or red-and-blue), and the new dock in white colour. You can tell the new model from the regular one based on the new more square packaging, with “OLED” being specified.
Unlike the revised “V2” version of the Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) is not intended to replace the regular Switch, but be part of the Switch lineup alongside the regular Switch and handheld-only Switch Lite.

This may not be the big Switch Pro upgrade that was rumoured and reported, but the improved screen and other quality-of-life features might be good for folks who are willing to pay a bit more for a teensy-bit better console.
The Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) will be priced at $349.99 USD (roughly RM1,454+) when it releases on October 8. That’s an extra 50-ish USD from the regular Switch. So expect it to be priced a bit higher than the rough conversion rate suggests when it reaches Malaysia considering a regular Switch here starts at RM1,349.
