TOCA, the rights holder to the British Touring car Championship (BTCC) has announced it has terminated its agreement with Motorsport Games that allowed the publisher to exclusive rights to produce a BTCC racing game.
The deal, signed in May 2020, was terminated due to “ongoing fundamental breaches of the agreement by Motorsport Games”.
“TOCA is aware that this news will come as a huge disappointment to our hundreds of thousands of fans, many of whom were eagerly anticipating the release of a new BTCC game and we very much share that frustration, due to Motorsport Games being unable to fulfil its contractual commitments,” the official announcement said.
Motorsport Games have recently sold off its license to produce NASCAR games to iRacing.
Since the deal was announced, there has been no news in regards to a BTCC racing game.
The most high-profile game based on that championship series remains to be the Toca Touring Car and later TOCA Racing Driver series developed by Codemasters in the late 90’s to ’00s. The series later evolved to become the Grid franchise.
