The upcoming expansion to Monster Hunter: Rise, Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak now has a release date. A lot of new and good information has been revealed yesterday as part of a special broadcast by Capcom.
The expansion’s release will be both for the Nintendo Switch and the PC version. The PC version of Rise was only available earlier this year- a year later than the Switch version.
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak will continue after the events of the base game, after you defend Kamura Village from the Rampage. (You will need to complete 7★ hub quest “Serpent Goddess of Thunder” before being able to access new content from Sunbreak.)
You will meet Fiorayne, a knight of the Royal Order, in her investigations on why the monsters from the Kingdom has gotten all aggressive as of recently, which leads you to whole new locales to hunt new monsters, including “The Three Lords”: Malezeno, Garangholm and Lunagaron.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak will also include some changes to combat and traversal. All the 14 weapon types will get new Silkbind Moves/Attacks. Wall runs can now be performed without needing the Wirebug Gauge, and can be initiated while dashing, falling or doing midair evades toward a wall. If this sounds too disruptive to your muscle memory, this can be disabled, or disabled only in combat, via an options setting.
Plus, expect a higher difficulty level in the form of Master Rank quests.
Monster Hunter Rise will be getting a big update on the same day of Sunbreak’s launch. The estimated 13GB update will give access to the expansion for those that purchase it, though base game players will also be getting weapon balance changes and the ability to download any free item packs and character edit vouchers.
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak will be out on June 30 for the PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch.
