Microsoft Is Working On Game Gifting For The Xbox One

Gifting games have been the norm for PC digital games, but you can’t do it on consoles yet. Whether it’s Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft, none of their main consoles support gifting games to your friends.

However, maybe that will change soon. As reported by Engadget, a tweet from the VP of Xbox and Windows Gaming Mike Ybarra might hint at it coming soon.

So far the only hints we have is this, but Microsoft has been willing to offer consumer-friendly features like backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 (and recently the original Xbox) on Xbox One and cross-platform play. So it’s not hard to imagine them bringing out digital game gifting support currently.

While PC distribution platforms like Steam may have done this for years, it is still filled with complications. Factors such as different pricing of games in different regions have made gifting games more complicated today. Valve recently updated its gifting mechanism to address some of these issues.

Even if the system is not perfect, it’s handy to have the feature available. As long as it cannot be exploited that is.
