Malaysian Football League Announces ePiala Malaysia 2019 FIFA 20 Tournament

On this date, 25th September 2019, Malaysian Football League (MFL) are partnering with Gamesbond to organize the ePiala Malaysia 2019. As to produce stronger interest in traditional football, MFL makes the effort to support esports as it is one of the popular sports platforms among Malaysian youths.

As part of ePiala Malaysia launch, the top 8 Malaysian esports players on the FIFA Global Leaderboard, representing the top football clubs in the league. The tournament uses FIFA20 on PS4. The quarter-final stage starts on September 26th.

The game format is being set on a home-away format which is 5 minutes per half for the quarter-final and semi-final rounds, while the final round will be played with one 6-minute half match. The final of the ePiala Malaysia 2019 match will be played at Bukit Jalil National Stadium. A total of RM5,000 prize money and trophy as a stake, each player in ePiala Malaysia 2019 will retain their drawn team across the duration of the tournament.

“Looking at the popularity of esports in Southeast Asia, with more than 9.5 million enthusiasts, we are looking to esports as a platform to promote solidarity through football,” said Kevin Ramalingam, Chief Executive Officer of MFL. “We also want the new generation to be interested in traditional football.”

Ramalingam also believes that the clubs in the MFL will also benefit from this esports initiative, opening up new revenue streams and collaborations.

The eight esports competitors taking part in the inaugural ePiala Malaysia 2019 are:

  • Muhammad Luqman Haziq Bin Hajiman (LuqmanHzq), 22 years old
  • Nur Amirul Bin Afandi (Amtuah), 25 years old
  • Muhammad Syahril Mispardi (Syahril), 33 years old
  • Kathireswaran Sugumaran (Infamous9), 25 years old
  • Mirza Mohammad Nabil Beg Bin Mirza Mohammad Taiyab Beg (Bale), 22 years old
  • Iskandar Mirza Bin Mohd Mustafa (IsMirza), 21 years old
  • Ahmad Shahrin Bin Shaharudin (Ayen), 19 years old
  • Putera Sufrie Nizam Bin Subardron (Killer), 18 years old

The live ePiala Malaysia 2019 matches, which will feature top esports football commentators Hafiz ‘Desaifer’ Sudin and Matthews ‘Matt’ Izzac, will be streamed via the MFL Facebook page and the Football Malaysia channel on iflix.
