Ichiban Kasuga Now Available In Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Alongside Limited-Time Festival Event

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is now updated, adding another guest character to the kart racer: Ichiban Kasuga from the Like A Dragon series.

The Hero Of Yokohama, Dragon Quest aficionado, delusional battler and the champion of Dragon Kart is now available to race alongside Sonic and friends. Kasuga is no stranger to kart racing with power-ups (it’s a mini-game in Yakuza: Like A Dragon, and was recently brought back in Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii), but he’ll have to adapt to not having rocket launchers and use silly power-up items instead.

Somehow, this middle-aged man can fit into the tiny cars Sonic and friends are driving, he’ll also be standing up and do poses like the rest of the cast. Though the usually boisterous hunk who’s always chatty doesn’t say a word: a typical issue we’ll likely to see more of with guest characters as they lack voice acting.

Similar to Hatsune Miku and Joker from Persona 5, Kasuga also comes with his own signature machine, Dragon Brave, which parts can be mixed-and-matched with other machines of the same class (Power).

Two new songs are added to the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. One is Asphodelos, otherwise known as the scenario battle theme from Yakuza: Like A Dragon, and the other is Yusha No Kiseki, the end-of-battle results screen. The former comes in normal and Final Lap variations, which means it can be enabled as custom racing music.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Ichiban Kasuga Festival Limited-Time Event Details

Just like previous Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds content drops, it comes with a limited-time event.

The Ichiban Kasuga Festival will go live on November 7, 8AM Malaysia Time (+8 GMT) until November 10, 7.59AM. It’s another limited-time event weekend where you can get limited-time cosmetics including stickers, titles, a new horn and a new gadget. The stickers are cool though, as they include logos of Ichiban Holdings (the business management mini-game from Yakuza: Like A Dragon), the Dragon Kart logo as well as the tattoo of the koi Kasuga has on his back.

The one Festival-exclusive gadget, Comeback Kit, will be earnable in the future should you miss out on the Festival, though Sega is still not committed in providing the FOMO unlocks outside of Festivals (“Alternative ways of obtaining Festival rewards may be introduced in the future” the disclaimer says in the press release of the announcement).

Also, these rewards are tied to the save game, and deleting them will also mean you will lose all the limited-time event unlocks.

This marks the end of announced free content updates for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds so far. There will five more content updates coming as part of the Year 1 paid DLC, with the Minecraft update being the first of six paid DLC which adds new racers, machines and courses.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is out now on PS4, PS5, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version coming soon. Check out our review of the game here.
