The PS5 will have backwards-compatibility with PS4. Which means you can play PS4 games on PS5. Not all games will work, but Sony claims over 4000 PS4 games should run on the upcoming next-gen console.
A new page on the PlayStation support site has revealed more details of PS5 backward compatibility. The claim of over 4000 games still remain, and now there’s confirmation that PS VR titles also work on PS5, though you also need a PS camera adapter to plug the old PS camera (which Sony has plans to distribute it to existing PS VR owners free).
So far, there’s already a list of games confirmed not to have back compat on PS5. These are PS4 only games that can only run on PS4. The list so far includes the following:
- Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One
- TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge 2
- Just Deal With It!
- Shadow Complex Remastered
- Robinson: The Journey
- We Sing
- Hitman Go: Definitive Edition
- Joe’s Diner
It’s a small list, but the most curious of them all is TT Isle Of Man 2, which just released this year (and we have a review of it too). Others are older titles and, in the case of Afro Samurai 2, has been delisted.
Game demos, media and non-game apps are excluded from the list. And moving forward, PS4 games that won’t run on PS5 will be labelled “PS4 Only” on the PS Store.
All you need to do to run PS4 games on PS5 is to insert the disc in, or download the game from your game library for digital copies. Save files can be transferred from your PS4 to PS5 via wifi digital transfer.
