God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla Is A Free DLC And Rougelite Game Mode

God Of War Ragnarök is getting a free DLC in the form of God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla.

Not to be confused with Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarök, God Of War Ragnarök Valhalla sees Kratos and Mimir explores the region of Valhalla in a epilogue that takes place after the events of the story. Though you actually can visit Valhalla at any time during the story if you don’t care about story spoilers.

Valhalla is an introspective journey for Kratos, who won’t have a partner character accompanying him here, just the sentient head buddy he has on his backside.

This new content is a rougelite mode, essentially, as Kratos will have to face random combat challenges, with the ability to invest in permanent upgrades that affects Kratos and Valhalla.

For Valhalla, all of Kratos’ armour and equipment are not carried over, but he has all access to the three weapons and a fully-upgraded skill tree. And that’s where the unlocks come in. These can be in the form of stat upgrades, perks, and runic attacks, which can drop randomly, making each run different and every choice and important one.

God Of War Ragnarök Valhalla has five different difficulties for all skill levels.

This free DLC, first revealed at The Game Awards 2023, is a gift from the Santra Monica Studio team, so that the fans can play more of the game throughout the holiday season. The DLC goes live on December 13, 1AM Malaysia Time (+8 GMT), or December 12, 9 AM Pacific Time.

Interesting choice to make this a free DLC, available on PS4 and PS5. Meanwhile, another PlayStation Studios game The Last Of Us Part II is getting remastered for PS5 and adding a rougelike/roguelite mode to entice players to play the remaster of a PS4 game, which does not have a free upgrade path.

Since launch, God Of War Ragnarök has now sold over 15 million units on PS4 and PS5, 4 million more since the last reported numbers. Check out our review of the game here.
