Sony Santa Monica has announced that their latest game, God Of War, has sold 3.1 million copies worldwide on the first three days of release. The game was also critically acclaimed- scoring numerous 10/10 scores from various outlets and now sits as the highest scoring PS4 game for the year at the score of 94.
We did not managed to review it, our first impressions of the game pointed out that the critics that reviewed it ahead of release were right in their assessments. It’s good.
“I would like to personally thank the millions of fans around the world who decided to embark on Kratos’ latest adventure with us, ” wrote Shannon Studstill, Santa Monica Studio head on Playstation Blog. ” Your support is truly inspiring, and it’s a reason why we push ourselves every day to go beyond the boundaries of play.”
For comparison, Horizon: Zero Dawn sold 2.6 million copies in the first two weeks of launch- granted it is still the best-selling new IP for the PS4, whereas Uncharted 4 sold 2.7 million copies in its first week.
This goes to show that a lovingly crafted single-player experience, both that offer good storytelling and good gameplay, can still sell in the age of games-as-a-service and battle royales.
