Previously called Best Game On Game Pass, the award category this year has expanded to allow any new game releases available on any subscription service eligible. It’s a commentary of how Game Pass has slightly loses its lustre as many other game subscription service catches up.
That being said, with the wider net being cast, the final nominees are mostly made up of games that are on Game Pass. But it was not for a lack of trying.

How The Winner Is Decided (Deliberations Summary)
When it comes to this award category, arguments from previous years were about how much value one can get out of a game that is somehow released on a game subscription.
For 2024, the argument has shifted for games that we wouldn’t have discover if it weren’t for a game subscription.
Four of the nominees here are genuinely big releases. Persona 3 Reload being the last of Sega/Atlus’s day-1-on-Game-Pass releases. Frostpunk 2 and STALKER 2 being highly-anticipated sequels with Indiana Jones And The Great Circle being Bethesda/Xbox’s big AAA release of this year.
But only one game from the list sparked a whole obsession into a sport we Malaysians have no business in being fans of. Two-thirds of the GM editorial team now talks about this sport, and one of them is so obsessed to have since bought that game on Switch after getting hooked from playing it via Xbox Game Pass.
It’s even more ironic considering that this a game developed by PlayStation, which had contributions from PlayStation Studios KL made up of what we assumed to be regular, non-baseball-enjoyer Malaysians.
